In the 1980s, the previous old drawbridge on the Wieprza river, connecting East and West Darłówko, was rebuilt.
The drawbridge was replaced with a sliding bridge. It is the only sliding bridge in Poland, so it is worth taking a moment of your holiday time to see it.
The Wieprza river, flowing into the sea, divides Darłówko into the eastern and western parts. Both banks of the Wieprza were connected by a 17th-century wooden drawbridge. It was modernized in the 19th century and served until the 1970s. As the port in Darłówko began to expand, the old bridge was dismantled in 1977. Until 1988, a ferry operated on the Wieprza. That year, an unusual, unique sliding bridge was opened in Darłówko. Besides the structure, the control tower also has an unusual appearance – it is often called UFO by many. The bridge is intended for pedestrian traffic and emergency vehicles.
